Imagine a world where all our comic book heroes weren’t exactly the wonderful people they were made out to be. How would the planet and all its inhabitants fare?
Injustice: Gods Among Us (NetherRealm Studios) will show us exactly that when it releases in early 2013. The studio that brought us the Mortal Kombat reboot, now brings us a look inside a world where our all time famous heroes were essentially our greatest threat.
In the fighting style of Mortal Kombat, minus the deeply stylized gore and bone shattering fatalities (I wish they would leave in the infant producing Babealities, seeing Supes as a Baby Kyrpton would be rather enjoyable.) With the violence turned down a notch and the gritty world turned up, Injustice has begun to show real promise through it’s many trailers and screenshots.
With Metalicized armored suits, deadly special moves (Batmans Bat-a-rangs, Superman throwing Cars), and background arenas from many familiar locales (Batcave anyone?), I have my eyes set pretty high on this fighter come 2013. There is even word of a Collector’s Edition being released, including a statuette of Batman battling Wonder Woman in the Fortress of Solitude, extra Costumes for three characters, a digital download of Justice League: Doom, and a copy of the first comic of the Injustice comic Series.
With Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Nightwing, Harley Quinn, Cat Woman, and Sloman Grundy filling out the roster, with some possible extra characters coming down the pipeline, I can’t wait to see the game’s final product.
I can;t help but wonder when we’ll get a Marvel fighter that jumps outside the realm of Marvel Vs. Capcom, making it more on par graphically with Injustice. My fingers are crossed for my buddy Iron Man for that fateful day to come.
