As promised, I started up my old blog in order to hopefully garner some more interest in the dream I have come to known as Respawn Point. To truly do such, I feel there will be need for an explanation of just what RP is, so here it is out in the open for those who feel they want to read.
Respawn Point was a vision I saw as a child, who loved video games and wanted to somehow change the world saw gamers like myself. My family has never really been supportive of my interest in video games, I’ve been told it is a waste, that I should just get a generic job, I should have realistic goals, and that it will ruin my life. I believe that games had the opposite effect honestly! I grew up, minus the clinical depression, a healthy, fun loving individual who had little in the area of friends, but had amazing ideas and creativity. I dreamed one day of being a game designer, a level developer, a game reviewer, and store owner. I would say I was ambitious and mostly for the right reasons, of wanting to help gamers like myself feel less like they are outcasts with people who view their lifestyle like my family did, but more like they belonged and that the video game experience never left them, even when they went into a video game shop.
The idea is still burning bright inside my mind, my want to change general precepts that people place upon us, I want to connect gamers together, like one gigantic family. Hence where my motto came from:
“Connecting Gamers, One Console At A Time”
Now, I don’t want to limit myself to consoles only, I want to connect people on the larger network of social interaction. I see and hear everyday people cussing out one another, arguing, and even belittling other gamers on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. I will admit I have even been guilty of such, which is a shame as I want to break down the wall of hatred and bring people together to unit under one banner, the banner of video gaming.
Now, I have been sitting on the idea of Respawn Point for years, my baby as I have been calling it, and it has gone through many changes since its conception. I have been trying to gain awareness of the idea of the people around me for so long, and have only realized that isn’t going to be enough to get RP to rise to the occasion. So in the attempt to disperse the message of Respawn Point, I will describe just what my vision is, excluding certain private ideas until I can copyright them.
Respawn Point is a retail shop. Only it’s not just a retail shop. It’s MUCH more than that; it is a retail shop on crank. It’s a store built by gamers, for gamers service, a selection of games that isn’t limited to the past 5 years, the classics even come back to play with their own special section entitled the Retro Room. Arcade machines from Arcades Past will be brought back into the lime light for those who want to do more than just browse for games. Gamer Lounge is the spot where you can sit on leather couches, play test a game which you are considering buying, where you can play with your friends in multiplayer, you can enjoy a trailer from E3 on the flat screen while drinking an energy drink you purchased at our counters. Walls and walls of the current and the older titles surround you while TVs above play trailers, and show leader boards of members of our loyalty card on the screen. Membership cards can be scanned on entry, then the leaderboards will announce your arrival into the store, verbally or on screen, showing your score and your progress to the next “trophy” in which you can get cash taken off a game in store for buying certain amount of games, or by playing the online MMO that will be attached the card, as you earn trophies there, you gain in store prizes. A LAN side will have its place where gamers want to come in a play a certain game for a specific amount of hours, also doubles as what I have called the LAN Café, where you can even come in single to play preloaded game on a PC in which you had before played at home or have an account on and cant access it at home any more.
That is just a small sample of ideas Respawn Point cares to offer for the future of gamers, it is made all for the gamer, we won’t be trying to over sell you on something, we don’t want to push things on you if you don’t want it. It is time the retail shackles become released on the gaming outlet and finally step into a new world of treatment.
Take the experience of gaming from your couch to the store.
Some of you are probably thinking that trying to avoid over selling is shooting yourself in the foot, and there are certain lines we will have to cross to give to our customers, some things will be unavoidable I know, and it’s sad, but those things we can fight, we will.
